Friday Night:

Triton High or Campbell University sporting event –

There’s nothing like capturing the spirit of a southern small town than by cheering on a local high school football game. Local Dunn area residents as well as visitors love our Triton High School Hawks! When visiting, you can also check out Campbell University’s “Fighting Camels” sporting events. They’ve got men and women’s sporting events and some great facilities for baseball and football games.

Saturday Morning:

Sherry’s Bakery

Get your morning started right in Downtown Dunn at Sherry’s Bakery. In addition to being locally owned and operated for the past forty years, they also serve the most amazing assortment of cakes, pies and other incredible baked goods. My favorite for breakfast is their “hobo sandwich” made with scrambled eggs and sausage, and a bowl of grits. Before you head out, grab a box of donuts to take with you for a sweet snack later.

Saturday Afternoon:

Raven Rock State Park

It’s about a 30 minute drive from Downtown Dunn to the beautiful Raven Rock State Park, which will provide you and your family with an incredible outdoor adventure of fun hiking trails, fishing, and canoeing. A little something for everyone! This is a great spot for a family picnic. INSIDER TIP: Call ahead and have The Broad Street Deli, in Downtown Dunn, pack up some box lunches to take with you. My favorite is a roast beef and brie cheese sandwich, called “The Life of Riley” – it’s a sure winner, and apparently a lot of other folks think so too!

When you get to Raven Rock, take a trail down to the Cape Fear River and spread out your picnic blanket where you can enjoy lunch while you listen to the rushing water and sounds of nature. After lunch, the kids might be ready for a change of pace. We love stopping in the Education Center at the Park.

Sunday Afternoon:

After church on Sunday mornings, I like to take the kids bowling! Buffaloe Lanes in Erwin is truly a fun time for all!

After a round of bowling, the kids love the pizza at Dino’s!
